RNZ interview Alex in response to the PGF audit release
In response to the Provincial Growth Fund Audit Office stating payments need to be reviewed and managed better, Alex Penk talks to RNZ’s Madison Reidy on Julian Wood’s paper, and our recommendations towards the risks surrounding the Fund.
“What we have seen, and what they have now seen is really ringing some alarm bells. Doing regional development right really matters, and frankly, when we see signs like this, we’re worried.
“I think it’s pretty late in the day for the government to be looking at that. That’s one of the things that comes out so clearly from the Auditor General’s report, we’re a long way down the track for some of these concerns to be raised.
“One of the things that I think is a really big concern is the fact that this whole endeavour is tied to an election cycle. It’s three billion dollars in three years, and that just unnecessarily politicises this.”
