Being Better Neighbours

As a member of the international community, New Zealand has a role to play in overseas development. A new policy paper titled Being Better Neighbours makes five recommendations about ways to improve the effectiveness of our contribution to international aid and development.

Since 2009, we have engaged in an in-depth study of foreign aid and international development. Our focus in our early work was on foreign aid and international development writ large: the rationales for giving, the history of aid, and the principles of best practice in foreign aid and development assistance. From this work we devised seven principles for effective aid and development assistance.
