MIC 15 | AI and Our Elections: Is Democracy Under Threat?
Get ready for a paradigm-testing event exploring the electoral power of data and the Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology landscape.
We’ll delve into information curation, bias, manipulation, and the rising threat of deep fakes and how these undermine public trust. Plus, we’ll reflect on the Australian vote experience and what it could mean for us here in New Zealand as we head towards our own election.
We will also explore the dangers of bad domestic and foreign actors, including other nations’ potential interest in influencing our voting.
Fundamentally, this is about the impact of AI on democracy.
Other issues include: how much data third parties and the government has on you, what data can be used by political parties, and how AI will impact this election cycle.
Should we fear AI or welcome it?
Join us for a riveting discussion featuring two experts in the field, Dr Paul Henderson and Dr Jonathan Cole, at Pocket Bar in Grey Lynn, Wednesday 22 March.
There will be plenty of time for your questions, so come at 7:30pm to order a drink and food, and our conversation will start at 8pm.
