Affording our future

The Treasury has appointed an External Panel of experts and commentators to investigate the issues and options around what the state can actually afford to provide us with in the long-term future. Social welfare and public services are among the government activities under consideration. The Expert Panel will report its findings at the “Affording Our Future Conference,” which will be held at Victoria University in Wellington between 10 and 11 December 2012. The conference is open to members of the public to attend.

For those who are interested in attending, a conference programme can be viewed here and registrations can be completed here.

The Chair of the External Panel, Bob Buckle, was interviewed on Radio New Zealand’s Nine to Noon programme on Thursday 31 October.

The background issues, research and presentations that the External Panel has or will consider can be accessed here.
