Where will my time be spent?
Both internship programmes are run from the Maxim Institute offices in Hillsborough, Auckland. The interns spend most of their time working on-site, except for a one week retreat at the beginning of the programmes. Interns live in residential accommodation near the Institute, while participating in the programmes.
What will I be doing?
Both internship programmes incorporate group assignments, self-directed work and project work with a mentor. Project work is based on your skill set and field of study. The programmes also includes community service projects, visiting guest speakers, attending public lectures and other events.

The programmes aim to challenge your thinking and provide a foundation for debate, discussion and learning. There will be guest lectures and lectures from Maxim Institute staff. However, the majority of time will be work experience and other study.
Are we allowed to disagree?
Of course. Debate and discussion is a key feature of the internship. Many issues and topics are raised over the course of the programme, and we encourage respectful, robust debate.
How will this benefit me in the future?
It might seem like a big commitment to take time off work or study but the internship offers a unique opportunity to reflect on the importance of character within leadership and the ideas that motivate and inform leadership. It provides time to think about New Zealand, its people and communities and how best to promote justice, freedom, and compassion within them, which will always be of benefit to those who see themselves leading in the future.

Ideas have consequences, and your ideas as a leader have consequences.

It is these ideas that will shape our nation.
