Stand for the Board of Trustees at your local school
Boards of Trustees have a huge impact on what goes on in your local school. If you want an amazing opportunity to shape the future of your local school and leave a legacy for your community, consider standing for election.
Boards govern schools and provide the vision and direction for the school. In addition, they often decide on specific issues like sex education, religious education and prayer in school.
As a member of the Board of Trustees you can have real input into providing the answers to questions such as:
- What is the vision for our school?
- What kind of education do we want to provide for our children?
- Who should we employ for key positions in our school?
- How can we best help our students to achieve and succeed to the best of their abilities?
- How can we assist the principal to provide the best possible school?
- What is the best way to manage the properties and finances of our school?
- What kind of legacy do we want to leave for the children at this school?
- What kind of commitment and positive impact can this school make in the community?

Answers to frequently asked questions about Boards of Trustees
Volunteer for a charity or community organisation
One of the biggest and best ways you can change your community is by changing one life at a time. Volunteering for a community organisation or charity in your area is a great way to get involved in community projects, to meet people from your neighbourhood and make a difference. Whether it is the local scout club, church, or the fire brigade, they all depend on volunteers who will get their hands dirty and make a difference.

Chances are, you are not the only person you know who cares about the issues facing our country. Getting together to discuss contemporary issues and plan projects is a great way of staying motivated and making a difference in your community. Why not considering starting a change agent group in your community?
What can a change agent group do?
Your group could meet regularly over coffee, or simply around important events. You can discuss the issues that concern you locally and nationally and brainstorm how you can take action. You might want to hold a public meeting and invite a guest speaker or resource other groups and organisations in your region with information about topical issues. You might want to communicate with the wider community about important issues and encourage people to make submissions to Parliament or communicate with their local MP. You could build relationship with your local MP and Council, volunteering your time and energy. You might also want to consider giving your group a name and appointing a spokesperson as there may be times when your group can speak up in the local media.
