Election finances and campaigning
The hotly debated topic of funding and campaigning during elections is being examined at the moment. The Government has repealed the Electoral Finance Act 2007 and the Ministry of Justice is looking into replacing the law, with new legislation to be in place before the 2011 election. How we fund election campaigning and who can say what, cuts to the important issues of freedom of speech, and participation in democracy. The first stage in the drafting of the new legislation has begun, with an Issues Paper open for public submissions until 26 June.

Volunteers really are the lifeblood of our community. They give willingly of their time and provide a unique dimension to society. Often their contribution is an intangible one, but it is of vital importance. They are part of the glue that helps hold people together and without them we would quickly see our communities disintegrate and fragment.
